Phishing Alert

Published on September 30th, 2007

The Commissioner of Social Security has issued a warning alerting the public of a fraudulent email message with the subject line “Cost of Living for 2007 Update”. The message claims to be from the Social Security Administration and asks the recipients to update their personal information or their account will be suspended indefinitely by the Social Security Administration.

The email includes a link to a website designed to look like the Social Security Administration’s. The recipient is asked to confirm their identity by providing personal information such as their Social Security number, bank account information and credit card information. Recipients of this email should contact the Social Security Office of the Inspector General at (800) 269-0271.

I am so happy! Thank you for helping me with my case. You made everything go so smoothly. No I know why you are 'number one' in Chicago. I will surely send qualified friends and family your way when they need your help. Thanks again.
